The Traveller Universe
The best way to view the Traveller Universe is through the Traveller Map, a small part which is clipped above.
The Third Imperium
The Third Imperium is a vast sprawling empire in Charted Space with over 11,000 worlds over 28 sectors, and home to almost 20 trillion humans and aliens of various races. It stretches all the way from Terra near the border of the stoic Solomani Confederation to the fairly isolated Spinward Marches and the psionic Zhodani Consulate to the sometimes ally sometimes not Julian Procterate. Borders are tense at the best of times. And then there are the pocket empires and the regions of unaffiliated systems and planets. The other major races make their presence known in their own way: Aslan, Vargr, Hivers, K'kree, and Droyne.
And all of it is connected only by the speed of communication.
The Vilani Hegemony fell. The Ziru Sirka, the First Imperium, fell. The Rule of Man, the Second Imperium fell. Now is the Third Imperium and all is well.
History has played out from the Ancients 300,000 years ago, to humaniti finding its way to the stars and into empires. The fall of the Rule of Man ushered in the Long Night. The Long Night lasted over 1,500 years. The Third Imperium emerged from the chaos and has stood for over a thousand years. History has been written, good and bad, but the Imperium stands in a complex connection of systems with fledgling planets and systems just barely out of the stone age to technological worlds so advanced the unitiated might think its magic.
Economic growth, technological advance, dreams and adventure await those hardy enough to become spacers and step off their worlds into the stars, the life of a Traveller.
